📖 Destination Information

Mount Bromo

Bromo is an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia, located in the Tengger Mountains. While it is not the highest summit in the massif, standing at 2,329 meters (7,641 feet), it is by far the most well-known. The area is one of East Java’s most famous tourist sites, and the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

The name Bromo is a Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. Mount Bromo is famously located in the striking “Sea of Sand” environmental reserve. The volcano has erupted several times, with the most recent major activity occurring in 2010.
