The name most likely refers to the appearance of multiple waterfalls in a single\, semicircular area. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMount Bromo \nBromo is an active volcano in East Java\, Indonesia\, located in the Tengger Mountains. It is not the highest summit in the massif\, standing at 2\,329 meters (7\,641 feet)\, but it is the most well-known. The area is one of East Java’s most famous tourist sites\, and the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. “Bromo” is a Javanese pronunciation of “Brahma\,” the Hindu god of creation. Mount Bromo is located in the “Sea of Sand” environmental reserve. Mount Bromo has erupted several times\, the most recent in 2010. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMount Ijen \nThe Ijen volcano\, located west of Gunung Merapi\, has a turquoise-colored acidic crater lake one kilometer (0.62 miles) wide. This 200-meter-tall waterfall is Java’s tallest and Indonesia’s second-tallest. This waterfall is located in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park\, specifically on the slopes of Mount Bromo. Madakaripura Waterfall is located at the end of a narrow valley and is shaped like a niche surrounded by steep cliffs that drip water as if it were raining; three of these cliffs even pour water down to form another waterfall. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIjen crater \nThe Ijen volcano\, located west of Gunung Merapi\, has a turquoise-colored acidic crater lake one kilometer (0.62 miles) wide. The lake is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation\, in which sulfur-laden baskets are carried from the crater floor by hand. The work is well compensated in comparison to the cost of living in the area\, but it is physically demanding. From pickup at hotel to drop-off at the port to Bali\, everything was perfectly organized. We had a private driver throughout the trip who always made us feel safe and comfortable – a big thank you to Hariz for his kindness and reliability. The local guides at each stop were also outstanding. At the waterfall\, Jack did a fantastic job\, and at Mount Ijen\, Janto was incredibly knowledgeable and supportive. Both spoke very good English\, shared lots of interesting information\, and made sure we felt safe and well taken care of at all times. What we especially appreciated was the flexibility of the tour. It is not the highest summit in the massif\, standing at 2\,329 meters (7\,641 feet)\, but it is the most well-known. The area is one of East Java’s most famous tourist sites\, and the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. “Bromo” is a Javanese pronunciation of “Brahma\,” the Hindu god of creation. Mount Bromo is located in the “Sea of Sand” environmental reserve. Mount Bromo has erupted several times\, the most recent being in 2010. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMount Ijen \nThe Ijen volcano\, located west of Gunung Merapi\, has a turquoise-colored acidic crater lake one kilometer (0.62 miles) wide. The lake is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation\, in which sulfur-laden baskets are carried from the crater floor by hand. The work is well compensated in comparison to the cost of living in the area\, but it is physically demanding. Workers earn about US$13 per day and must transport sulfur chunks three kilometers to the nearby Paluding Valley to be compensated. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSukamade \nSukamade beach is roughly 97 kilometers southwest of Banyuwangi. It is a beautiful\, tranquil\, natural setting that is part of the 50\,000-hectare Meru Betiri National Park. Turtles lay eggs on Sukamade beach nearly every night of the year. Because the site is obviously of global importance\, the overworked park rangers protect it 24 hours a day\, 365 days a year. The rangers take some eggs to protect them from human and animal predators. The eggs are incubated in the park’s hatchery before being released into the sea from the same beach where they were laid.
